ARAB 3001 - Intermediate-Advanced Arabic I


This is an advanced level course in Modern Standard Arabic designated for students with intermediate knowledge of Arabic. It is designed to develop proficiency in Arabic by strengthening listening-comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking skills. The course is also aimed at enabling students to grasp a better and broader understanding of Arabic culture. Thus, in addition to the text sources, the course focuses on reading articles from journals, magazines and listening to TV programs and songs. The course will study selected lessons from Alosh, Ahlan wa Sahlan: Functional Modern Standard Arabic for Intermediate Learners to build advanced writing, reading, listening-comprehension, and oral expression skills. It also will be used to master the basic Arabic grammar. El Mustafa Lahlali, Advanced Media Arabic will be used to further build active vocabulary and develop more language skills. Husni, Ronak and Newman, Daniel L. Modern Arabic Short Stories will provide a cultural supplement and introduces student to classic Arabic texts.

Prerequisite: ARAB 2002, or placement by the Department of Modern & Classical Languages
