Cottrell Graduate Certificates

The Cottrell graduate certificate is an academic credential granted to non-degree-seeking graduate students who fully complete a specialization track as well as the one-hour course MGMT 6680: Professionalism in Business. The certificate requires a total of ten graduate credit hours, which are offered jointly with for-credit MBA classes.

The Cottrell MBA offers Technology Leadership as a graduate certificate to provide essential managerial skills for technology-sector professionals. This certificate will be awarded to non-degree-seeking students upon completing the following track of four MBA courses.

Graduate Admissions Procedures

Application materials may be obtained from Graduate Admissions or from UNG’s website www.ung.edu/graduate/. Applicants must pay a one-time, non-refundable application fee. When all application materials have been received by Graduate Admissions, the applicant will be notified and a copy of materials will be forwarded to the program. After review, a letter from the MBA program will be mailed or emailed to the applicant verifying acceptance or denial.

Students who are admitted to UNG but do not enroll within three semesters of acceptance must reapply to the program by submitting to Graduate Admissions a new application for readmission. Students who were previously enrolled but have not been in attendance within three semesters must also reapply to the program by submitting to Graduate Admissions a new application for readmission. All documents and materials submitted to fulfill the application requirements for entry to a program at UNG become the property of the university and will not be returned.

Students enrolled in certificate only programs as non-degree seeking students at UNG are not eligible for federal financial aid (contact UNG Student Financial Aid for more information).

Admission Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree from a AACSB or ACBSP accredited business program, or appropriate non-business bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale) calculated in accordance with Graduate Admissions procedures.
  • Either undergraduate degree or work experience in an associated field of information technology.

Admission Requirements

An individual seeking to receive graduate credit for the certificate courses must apply as a non-degree seeking student to Graduate Admissions ung.edu/graduate-admissions/apply-now. The following documents must be received prior to admission:

  1. Graduate Admissions application.
  2. Non-refundable application fee.
  3. Official transcripts documenting completion of a baccalaureate or a master’s degree from a regionally accredited, four-year institution. International transcripts must have a course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES). Official evaluations must include certification that the applicant’s course work and degrees earned are equivalent to course work and degrees earned from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States and include a cumulative grade point average.
  4. Proof of lawful presence in the United States, if applying for in-state tuition.

A student who has been removed because of a deficient grade may reapply to the program after a period of three semesters from the date the student was removed by submitting to Graduate Admissions a letter addressed to the MBA program coordinator and a new application for readmission.

A non-degree student wishing to apply for degree-seeking admission to the MBA program must notify the MBA program coordinator, submit a new application to Graduate Admissions, and meet all program admission requirements. All elective credit to be applied toward a degree must be approved by the MBA program coordinator.

A non-degree student is not eligible for financial aid.

Appeal of Graduate Admission

A candidate whose application is denied because the graduate admission calculated grade point average is below the minimum requirement for the program has the right to appeal the decision. An appeal must be submitted to Graduate Admissions, University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, GA 30597-1001, grads@ung.edu. The letter should clearly state the grounds for appeal. A student whose appeal is accepted will be admitted provisionally and is not eligible for federal financial aid while under provisional admission status. Students may not appeal for regular admission.
