Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership & Practice

Admission and Graduation Requirements for the Ed.D.

  1. Applicants must hold a minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
  2. Official transcripts must be submitted which show the master’s degree confirmation. Applicants with international degrees must have a course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
  3. Students must submit evidence of Graduate Record Exam General Test (GRE) scores of at least 305 (verbal and quantitative combined). Graduate Record Exam completion must have occurred within six years of the date of admission.
  4. Applicants must submit a brief, 2-page resume/vita highlighting the personal and professional achievements of the applicant, including experience working and/or teaching in higher education.
  5. Applicants must submit a statement of purpose (admissions essay) for obtaining the EdD degree in Higher Education Leadership and Practice.

Provisional Admission

Students who do not meet the regular admission criteria may be granted provisional admission if they achieve the minimum GPA and GRE scores required for provisional status provided there is space available in a particular cohort and pending a successful admission appeal. See Appeal of Graduate Admission for details. Note: unofficial GRE score reports are acceptable for use during the admissions process. If admission is granted, official results must be provided to Graduate Admissions at UNG prior to enrollment. 

Provisional degree-seeking students:

  • may register for a maximum of six semester hours of graduate credit.
  • will be reviewed to determine eligibility for regular admission following completion of six hours.
  • are not eligible for federal financial aid while enrolled in courses as a provisional student.
  • will not be allowed to continue in the program if a grade of C or lower is earned in any graduate course.
  • may apply for readmission after three semesters from the date removed from the program because of a deficient grade by submitting a new application to Graduate Admissions with a letter addressed to the program coordinator requesting readmission.

Requirements

  1. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) calculated in accordance with Graduate Admissions procedures.
  2. General Record Exam (GRE) score not less than 305 verbal and quantitative scores combined)
    • Notes: Unofficial GRE score reports are acceptable for use during the admissions process. If admission is granted, official results must be provided to Graduate Admissions at UNG prior to enrollment.
    • Only test scores less than six years old will be considered.
  3. Required Supplemental Documents
    • Applicants must submit a brief, 2-page resume/vita highlighting the personal and professional achievements of the applicant, including experience working and/or teaching in higher education.
    • Applicants must submit a statement of purpose (admissions essay) for obtaining the EdD degree in Higher Education Leadership and Practice.

Transfer Credit Requirements

Requests for transfer course credit for courses completed at regionally accredited institutions within six years will be reviewed by the College of Education admissions committee upon the request of the student. Requests must include the syllabus for the semester in which the proposed transfer course credit was completed. Requests may only include courses from programs at the Ed.S., Ed.D. or Ph.D. levels. Transfer credit award will be limited to 36 hours.
