Nurse Executive Leader Certificate

The Nurse Executive Leader Certificate curriculum is developed using the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) Nurse Executive Competencies (www.aone.org). The curriculum is designed to focus on business skills and principles: financial management; human resource management; and strategic management. The course work prepares the student for the Nurse Executive, Board Certification exam (http://www.nursecredentialing.org/NurseExecutive) upon completion of administrative employment requirements.

Upon successful completion of the program the Nurse Executive Leader will be able to:

  1. Identify innovations in nursing leadership and management to meet the challenges in delivering quality health care.
  2. Critically analyze the challenges and issues facing nurse executives for maintaining health care work forces.
  3. Operationalize quality, cost effective nursing practice principles.
  4. Assume leadership roles in the development of clinical practice models, healthcare policy and finance, and standards of care within a healthcare organization.
  5. Support and improve patient care and healthcare systems through the use of clinical practice models, collaboration with organization leaders, health policy, informatics, and fiscal operations.
  6. Analyze ethical, political, economic, legal and regulatory issues that impact health care delivery.

Admission Requirements

  1. Hold a current, unencumbered active RN license in a state or territory of the United States.
  2. Hold a bachelors’ or higher degree in nursing from a regionally accredited, institution with a nationally accredited school of nursing with at least a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 calculated in accordance with Graduate Admissions procedures.
  3. Hold a mid-level administrative or higher position (e.g. nurse manager, supervisor, director, assistant director is recommended.
