HIST 2121 - Introduction to the New South (1865-Present) The New South is defined as the period that begins after the Civil War and extends, at least theoretically, to the present. The time line for this course begins with Reconstruction and concludes with the events surrounding the changes associated with the civil rights revolution in the 1950s and 1960s, and the disintegration of the Solid Democratic South that followed. The focus of The New South will be the political, economic, and social developments that have given the region a distinct and unique flavor and past.
