ARAB 3002 - Intermediate-Advanced Arabic II


This is an intermediate/advanced level course in Modern Standard Arabic designated for students as a continuation to Arabic 3001. It is designed to develop students’ proficiency in Arabic by strengthening their listening comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking skills. The course is also designed to enable students to develop a deeper and broader understanding of Arabic culture. Thus, in addition to the text sources, the course focuses on reading articles from journals and magazines and listening to TV programs and popular songs. The course will continue the study of selected lessons from Alosh, Ahlan wa Sahlan: Functional Modern Standard Arabic for Intermediate Learners to build advanced writing, reading, listening-comprehension, and oral expression skills. It also will be used to master the basic Arabic grammar. El Mustafa Lahlali, Advanced Media Arabic will be used to further build active vocabulary and develop advanced language skills. Husni, Ronak and Newman, Daniel L. Modern Arabic Short Stories will provide a cultural supplement and introduce student to classic Arabic texts.

Prerequisite: ARAB 3001 or placement by the Department of Modern & Classical Languages
