BIOL 3332 - Ecology Field Techniques

Explore standard ecological field methods and techniques for terrestrial and fresh water habitats for investigation of patterns of distribution and abundance. Methods examined will include study site selection, plot layout, census and marking techniques, forest and wetland surveying, and field data collection. Other topics covered will include experimental design, hypothesis formulation, biological and natural resource conservation, effect of and removal of exotic plant and animal species, habitat loss and fragmentation, and habitat remediation. The skills presented in this course are fundamental to investigations in basic and applied ecology, thus this course offers important foundations for students to progress towards careers or graduate school in this area. Extensive field work, even in adverse weather conditions, and potential field trips are required.
