MLAN 2010 - Introduction to Linguistics


This course will provide modern language students with a basic knowledge of how language functions. The class will be a survey of linguistics and its subfields such as pronunciation (phonology), word structure (morphology), sentence structure (syntax), meaning (semantics and its context (pragmatics), language variation (dialectology), language acquisition, and language in society (sociolinguistics). Assignments comparing English and other languages. Class conducted in English.

Prerequisite/Corequisite:
Prerequisites: ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102 with grades of C or higher
