MUED 4290 - Seminar in Music Education


This course is a synthesis “capstone” course for the music education degree. The course explores the philosophies, teaching methods, materials, and curriculum for a comprehensive music program. Focus will be on the design and implementation of the above elements at the secondary level (instrumental and vocal performance models, music theory, aural skills, music history) and the primary level (general elementary music). In addition to exploring teaching strategies and curriculum development, students will study evaluation tools and methodologies which are content-specific. Students will also be given practical guidance in the administration of a comprehensive music program. 105 hours of field experience are required for this course. Reflections and video analyses are required and tied to in-class discussion.
