EDD 7100 - Research Design and Evaluation The main objective of this course is to begin preparing doctoral students to conduct their dissertation research and build foundational knowledge and skills that they may utilize as practitioners in their respective fields. The course will prepare them for subsequent courses in qualitative and quantitative methodology. In the present course students will learn how to read and evaluate empirical research studies. They will learn about the principles of research design and how to create testable hypotheses. They will be introduced to quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as instruments for collecting data for those methods and how to analyze and interpret that data. During the course students should begin to formulate a research focus that they will concentrate on during their time in the doctoral program, ultimately culminating in an empirical study that will serve as their dissertation research.
