MDST 4310 - American Film History This course examines the history of American film as an art form and as a cultural phenomenon, from the invention of motion pictures to the present. The course will cover major historical movements and periods, including the Cinema of Attractions, the Trust Era, the advent of the Sound Era, the Hollywood Studio Era, Experimental Cinema, New Hollywood, American Independent Cinema, and Internationalization. Students will view and research select films from each period, studying them both as reflective of their historical context and as social forces that have shaped American culture.
Prerequisite/Corequisite: Prerequisites: MDST 3301 and MDST 3302
