GEOL 6410K - Spatial Information Science for Geoscience and Health


This is an interdisciplinary course studying the effects of geology on human health. Four major types of activities are conducted for each topic covered during the course: an introductory lecture (in class), a lab analysis of exposure pathways related to the topic (in class), an online lecture about the toxicology and epidemiology of health effects, and in class labs focusing on geospatial analysis  tools, GIS and Remote Sensing (RS). Real case studies are presented in labs using the environmental health format used by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Environmental Health.
