BUSA 3830 - Labor and Employment Law


The goal of this course is to provide business students with a basic understanding of labor and employment law. The student will learn about the nature of the employment relationship; laws governing workplace discrimination and harassment; laws governing compensation and benefits; laws governing leave from work; laws governing workplace privacy and safety and employer control over employee communications and off-duty conduct; the employment at will doctrine, exceptions to that doctrine, and other laws governing the termination of employment, severance, and retirement benefits; the laws governing restrictive covenants; and the governing relationships among employees, employers, and labor unions; the applicable procedural law governing the resolution of labor and/or employment disputes; and the ways in which these laws impact a business’ employment related policies, practices, and employment related decisions.
