RUSS 3110 - Russian Literature of the 19th Century


This course is an introduction to the nineteenth-century Russian literature. It surveys the most famous classical authors, such as Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Chekhov. Students will read the original texts and study the advanced language structures that are essential for understanding the norms and functions of the Russian language. The selected masterpieces are also discussed in the historical, political, and social contexts, as an integral part of Russia’s modern culture and identity.

Prerequisite/Corequisite:
Prerequisite: RUSS 2002 with a grade of C or higher or placement by the Department of Modern Languages
