PSYC 3017 - Positive Psychology This course is an introduction to the theories and research underlying Positive Psychology. Positive Psychology is briefly defined as “the scientific study of ordinary human strengths and virtues…finding out…what’s right and what’s improving” (Sheldon & King, 2001, p.216). Topics covered will include happiness, hope, love & close relationships, commitment, empathy, self-control, and several others. The course is designed to be extremely hands-on and as such is expected to pique your interest and engagement. The goal is to introduce the student to research perspectives on what impacts a person’s ability to thrive in several areas of life. This course will also provide numerous opportunities for self-reflection and the exploration of scientifically reviewed concepts that can potentially enrich both your personal and professional areas of life.
