PSYC 4104 - Psychology of Gaming


Psychology of Gaming is the scientific study of the cognitive, social, and interpersonal effects of gaming, as well as the psychological principles underlying game design and player engagement. Students in this course will be introduced to the major phenomena, methods, concepts, principles, and theories that comprise the field of gaming psychology. This course includes topics such as the impact of gaming on problem-solving skills, creativity, and cognitive development; the influence of gaming on mental health; the benefits and challenges of role-playing games; stereotypes of gamers; and the psychological impact of online gaming communities. Students will also explore the use of games for training in the workforce, the design and evaluation of serious games and simulations, and the development of collaborative skills through game prototyping. 

Prerequisite/Corequisite:
Prerequisite: PSYC 1101 or PSYC 1101H with a grade of C or higher
