It assesses the different theories of international relations and discusses why international actors succeed or fail at creating institutions for global governance. The course also examines the effects those institutions have. Major emphasis will be on the United Nations system, yet it we will take a closer look at regional and specialized agencies and will analyze a broad range of issue-areas such as collective security, economics, environment, social welfare, and human rights.
