ARED 4350 - History & Design of Art Education Programs in Schools & Communities


ARED 4350 is designed to provide preservice art educators with a historical, contextual and philosophical foundation for understanding the discipline of art education. This course will introduce the components of a quality, standards -based art program and students will identify, classify and understand art instruction that aligns with the National Visual Arts Standards and the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Visual Art Education. Additionally, students will be introduced to examples of innovative and exemplary art programs and consider the contextual factors that impact an art program’s success. Principles of sound program/classroom assessment and evaluation will be reviewed and how they apply to classroom/program/administrative decision making will be explored.

Prerequisite: Complete and accepted application to College of Education for progression to upper division courses
