ESCI 4001K - Ecology of Wetlands and Streams This course covers chemical and physical processes, biotic diversity and adaptations, and ecosystem dynamics in wetlands and streams. The interactions between aquatic systems and neighboring terrestrial ecosystems are emphasized with a strong focus on watershed-scale analysis. Throughout the course, relatively pristine ecosystems are contrasted with those that have been heavily modified by human activities. In this way, we explore how human activities and land uses can influence the characteristics, usefulness, and biological integrity of wetlands and streams. Field and laboratory studies provide students with practical experience in watershed mapping, wetlands delineation, and stream ecosystem assessment.
Prerequisite/Corequisite: Prerequisite: BIOL 3325K/3325L and GISC 2011/2011L (or consent of instructor).
