SOCI 2050 - Social Statistics

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with basic statistical methods that are frequently used by social scientists. Statistics is one of the most powerful tools available to scientists. It allows us to compare different groups, to determine how different variables are related to one another, to determine the probability of certain events, and much more. As such, social scientists use it to evaluate social programs and policies, to test theories, and to describe society. Even those social scientists that do not use statistics themselves need to understand statistics in order to be capable social scientists. In this course, you will be introduced to many of these techniques, as used in the “real world.”
