The Department of Biology offers courses of study leading to either the Associate of Science degree or the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology. An Associate’s degree (Associate Degree in Core Curriculum with Pathway Courses in Biology) is an option for those students pursuing a 2-year degree. The B.S. degree is offered on both the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses. Students may begin their B.S. degree on any UNG campus but must complete the program on either the Dahlonega or Gainesville campuses. In addition to courses, the department offers advisement for application to a variety of graduate and professional programs (e.g., biology, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, and respiratory therapy). Students should consult their academic advisor for assistance in choosing courses that both comply with degree requirements for a major in Biology and meet the admission requirements for the graduate career or professional program in which they have interest. Students aspiring secondary education teacher certification in biology usually complete the B.S. degree in Biology and then get certified through the post-baccalaureate or Master of Arts in Teaching programs in the College of Education.
