Becoming a Business Major or Minor and Advising

Upon admission to the University, any student can declare a major in the AA, AS, AAS, BBA or BS degree program.  Currently enrolled students who wish to change their major to business must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0; otherwise, they will be provided with specific suggestions for improving their academic record prior to making another request.

Admission to the BAS requires an appropriate career associate degree (e.g., AAS or AAT) from an institution regionally accredited to grant associate degrees. Students who hold associate degrees (usually AA or AS) that are designed to constitute the first two years of a BA, BS or BBA or other traditional baccalaureate degrees will not be eligible for admission to the BAS program. A student who wishes to pursue the BAS, but who has not yet completed a career associate degree, must finish the career associate degree before applying for entry to the BAS.

Students with a major in the MCCB will be assigned a faculty advisor in the College of Business based on their degree program and campus.  The faculty advisor will assist in planning and sequencing coursework to progress toward a degree and provide career advice.  Students seeking a minor in Business should contact the College of Business for direction to the appropriate advisor.

In addition to faculty advisors, the MCCB maintains a website, http://ung.edu/myung/, with advising information for all degree programs.  The site includes information for current students including curriculum information, forms, and answers to many frequently asked questions.

Enrollment Eligibility

A grade of C or higher is required to meet any stated prerequisites for courses taught in the MCCB.  In addition, enrollment in many courses in the MCCB requires students to meet eligibility requirements beyond the specific course prerequisites identified in the course description.  These requirements are monitored through the registration system rather than requiring a separate application for admission to the MCCB.

Location and Frequency of Course Offerings

All courses required for the BBA and BS majors and for the minor are taught on the University campus in Dahlonega.  All courses for the BBA for majors in accounting, finance, and management are also taught on the Gainesville campus.  All course required for the BAS, AA, AS and Paralegal degrees are offered on the Gainesville campus.  All courses for the AA and AS degrees are offered on the UC 400 campus in Cumming and the Oconee campus.

Area F Business courses are offered each semester on each campus. Courses specific to the major are offered on their respective campuses on a one year or two year rotation.
