History with Teacher Certification (B.A.)

Admission to the Teacher Education Program required.
The History Degree Program with Teacher Education Certification holds the same requirements as the History Degree, with the following three exceptions: 1) Area F: ECON 2105 is required rather than one 1000-2000 level ANTH, ECON GEOG, PHIL, POLS, PSYC, or SOCI course; 2) Major Area: eight upper-level History courses rather than nine; 3) Minor Area & Electives: both sections replaced with 36 hours of the Teacher Education courses.
Programs of study are subject to requirements listed in the Department of Teacher Education section of this catalog.

Core Curriculum (Areas A-E) - 42 hours

Area A1: No exceptions
Area A2: No exceptions
Area B: MLAN 1001 or MLAN 1002
Area C: MLAN 2001 or MLAN 2002
Area D: No exceptions
Area E: HIST 1112 and HIST 2111 recommended
Note: All students pursuing a degree in History must complete HIST 1111, 1112, 2111, & 2112. Typically, 1112 and 2111 will be completed in AREA E and 1111 and 2112 will be completed in AREA F.
Area F: Courses Appropriate to Major - 18 hours
Teacher Education - 30 hours

Student must have 2.75 cumulative GPA for certification admissions. In order to graduate, a student must have a minimum of 3.0 for their institutional and overall GPA and a “C” or higher in their major course work (Area F and the major). In addition, the following are parts of each degree program:
