Music with Musical Arts Concentration (B.M.)

A successful entrance audition in the appropriate applied area is required for all students who desire to pursue either an Associate’s pathway in music or music education or a Bachelor of Music degree. Students who exhibit a high level of talent and potential, but are deficient in their applied area, may be offered provisional admission to the degree program and allowed to re-audition following one semester of secondary level study. Students who do not successfully pass the audition will not be admitted into the degree program. All music majors and minors must achieve a grade of C or higher in each Department of Music course (MUAP, MUED, and MUSC), including core curriculum and transfer courses, that are taken to fulfill degree requirements.

^Four total semesters of study are required for the Musical Arts Concentration regardless of credits taken.

Music Electives - 14 hours


  • Music Electives chosen in consultation with the academic advisor. These courses may comprise either a general study of music or a more specific focus in a musical field. No more than two credits of MUAP 46xx may count towards a student’s elective hours. No other courses in applied music (MUAP) beyond those will count towards a student’s elective hours. No more than three credit ours may come from ensembles. At least nine hours must be at the 3000-4000 level.

Senior Capstone - 1 hour


Liberal Arts Courses - 18 hours


  • Under the direction of the academic advisor and subject to approval by the Head of the Department of Music, the student will select an elective course of study in the liberal arts which may constitute a minor in another discipline or an approved combination of courses suited particularly to the student’s academic needs. MUED courses may be utilized as a part of the Liberal Arts courses. No other Music (MUSC or MUAP) courses may be used in the Liberal Arts courses except by approval of the Department Head. At least nine hours in this area must be at the 3000-4000 level.

Upper Division Course Requirement


  • In order to graduate, students must have at least 39 semester hours of upper division course work. Of those, a minimum of 21 must be upper division hours in the major field of study.
