Strategic and Security Studies (B.A.)


The Bachelor of Arts in Strategic and Security Studies is a comprehensive degree program that offers students six concentrations from which to select: Cybersecurity, History, Intelligence, International Affairs, Language, or Military Science. Each concentration builds upon a foundation of language learning through the 2002 level in Area F as well as additional foundational courses focusing on internationalization from different disciplinary perspectives.

The program of study is comprised of an 18 hour interdisciplinary Common Curriculum that focuses on Military History, Political Science, and Geography courses. Each of the six concentrations require 21 credit hours; the Study Abroad/International Internship requirement is 9-15 hours, depending on contact hours; and there are 6-12 hours for electives.

No grade below “C” will be acceptable in any Political Science or International Affairs course or any course in the major area for Political Science, Strategic & Security Studies, or International Affairs majors.

Study Abroad/International Internship - 9-15 hours


All SSST majors are required to complete an international internship and/or a study abroad program for a total of 9 to 15 hours in their plan of study. These hours must be at the 3000 or 4000 level. A student’s international internship must be coordinated within their concentration. A student’s study abroad program can include courses from the following list of courses:

  • 3xxx/4xxx non-English language course
  • 3xxx/4xxx CRJU course
  • 3xxx/4xxx HIST course
  • 3xxx/4xxx INTL course
  • 3xxx/4xxx MILS course
  • 3xxx/4xxx POLS course

These courses are permissible for students as long as they are part of a recognized UNG-sanctioned study abroad program, or an international internship, which has been approved by the SSST coordinator.

Electives - 6-12 hours
