English with Literature Concentration (B.A.)

The Department of English offers major programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Each of these programs develop communication and critical thinking skills, which are highly valued in graduate schools, professional programs, and businesses in a variety of settings. 

Students choosing the B.A. in English may opt for a concentration in either literature, writing, or teacher certification. The Literature concentration provides students with the broadest possible perspective of diverse literary traditions. The Writing & Publication concentration provides students with the theory and practice of writing and publishing. The B.A. in English with Teacher Certification includes courses in Teacher Education and field experience, leading to certification to teach grades 6-12.

Please note: a minimum grade of “C” is required for all ENGL courses in this degree program.

    Modern Language Requirement (6 hours):

    • Choose a two course modern language sequence of 2001 and 2002 (6 semester hours) in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Russian, Portuguese, or Spanish
    • Alternative for Modern Language Minors: Instead of 2002, one of the following may be taken: Any 1000- or 2000-level class in another language or any ENGL 2100-level literature survey.

Major Requirements - 60 hours


Minor Program - 15-18 hours


Electives - 6-9 hours
