Middle Grades Education (B.S.)

The middle-level program prepares students to work in grades 4-8. Middle-level candidates select two teaching field concentrations (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts). All middle-level cohorts begin in the fall semester. During the fall placement of the senior year, candidates are assigned to selected area schools and expected to attend preplanning along with the classroom teachers.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Middle Grades Education Program, a student must:
- Complete 60 semester hours of credit applicable to the degree program with an overall grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
- Completed EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, EDUC 2130, and Area F courses with a grade of C or higher, and successfully complete the field experience hours, and display the professional dispositions required to work with students.
- Complete Area A with a grade of C or higher.
- Complete Area D Math requirement with a grade of C or higher.
- Post a passing score on the GACE Program Admissions Test or its equivalent (see the Teacher Education Department exemption information).
- Complete an application for admission to the Teacher Education Program. Application deadlines are posted on the department web page.
- Provide proof of professional liability insurance that is valid through the projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through either of the professional educational organizations listed on the application form.

- One earth science: Astronomy, Geology, Geography 1111K; ISCI 4002K highly recommended (content area only, offered in Spring only)
