Secondary (6-12) Teacher Education Programs

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Secondary Teacher Education Program a student must:
-
Complete 60-80 semester hours of credit applicable to the degree program with an overall grade point average of 2.75 or higher;

Complete EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, EDUC 2130, and Area F courses with a grade of C or higher;

Complete Area A courses with a grade of C or higher;

All secondary content coursework requires a “C” grade or better, with the additional requirements for Secondary English with Teacher Certification. Courses below require a grade of “B” or higher;

ENGL 2050 - Standard English Grammar

ENGL 2230 - Intermediate Composition
-
ENGL 2100 - level literature survey or ENGL 2200 - level creative writing course

A copy of Degree Works audit OR plan of study signed by your College of Education advisor AND content advisor;

Successfully complete the field experience hours and display the professional dispositions required to work with students in schools;

Post a passing score on the GACE Basic Skills Assessment test or its equivalent (see the Teacher Education Department for exemption information);

Complete an application for admission to the Teacher Education Program. Application deadline is posted on the department web page;

Provide proof of liability insurance that is valid through projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through either of the professional education organizations listed on the application form.

Courses in Secondary Teacher Education Programs
Secondary education students major (biology, chemistry, physics, English, history, and mathematics) in their academic departments. Programs of study are listed with the appropriate academic department. The following courses are included in many of these programs of study: SCED 3000, SCED 4002, SCED 4003, SCED 4005, SCED 4005L, and READ 3106 along with specific content methods courses. Final internship courses include SCED 3540, SCED 4403, SCED 4404, and SCED 4405. Check with your advisor for details.
