Regents Engineering Pathways Program

Students seeking a bachelor of engineering degree may begin their college studies at the University of North Georgia through the Regents Engineering Pathways program (REP) or may take a pre-engineering curriculum. Upon successful completion of the pre-engineering curriculum, REP students transfer to the Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Southern University, the University of Georgia, or Mercer University to complete the degree requirements. Non-REP pre-engineering students take the pre-engineering curriculum and then apply for transfer to the engineering school of their choice. Students in this program, like other engineering graduates, will normally require four to five years to complete the degree requirements, depending on their pre-college preparation, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and engineering major.

This institution’s faculty members work closely with the faculty of the engineering schools to assure a curriculum which is well-coordinated. REP program students first satisfactorily complete the pre-engineering curriculum required by the transfer institution and then apply for transfer to the engineering school. However, admission will also be based upon the specific requirements of the transfer institution, such as overall grade point average, their math-science grade point average and other factors. These requirements vary among the participating engineering schools. Those schools specific expectations are listed on their websites. The UNG pre-engineering advisors should also be consulted for their help.

To transfer, students must:

  1. Complete the REP requirements of the transfer institution, including courses and grade point average.
  2. Submit the application materials online to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the engineering school.
  3. Obtain a recommendation from the University of North Georgia REP Coordinator.

Each student’s schedule should be discussed with the student’s academic advisor before registration. While there is some flexibility in pre-engineering schedules, suggestions for schedules are given below. Note that there are two sets of suggestions, one for students starting with MATH 1450 the first semester and one for students starting with MATH 1113 the first semester. Note that students’ schedules may vary from these suggestions. The important point is that students complete the courses required for transfer by the engineering school. Students should be aware of the Core Curriculum requirements described elsewhere in this catalog. Military students will take Military Science courses in addition to their other courses.

For students starting with MATH 1450 (Calculus I) in the first semester:

For students starting with MATH 1113 (Precalculus) in the first semester:

Dual Degree Program

The University of North Georgia offers a dual degree program in engineering, which provides students the opportunity to develop a strong liberal arts background before completing academic coursework at another institution. Dual degree program students normally attend University of North Georgia for approximately three years and then the Georgia Institute of Technology, Clemson University, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Southern University, or the University of Georgia for an additional two to two and one half years. Upon completion of study in this program, the successful student will receive a B.S. in an engineering field from the engineering school in addition to a bachelor’s degree from UNG.

The dual degree program in engineering is offered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science. Details of the specific requirements for the dual degree in each of those areas can be found in the catalog pages of each department.

For courses offered in the engineering program please see Engineering Courses.
