Elementary and Special Education (B.S.)

The Elementary and Special Education degree offers a program leading to certification in early childhood and special education, preparing students to work in both fields in grades P-5. All cohorts begin in the fall semester and program courses are offered face-to-face and/or online. Starting in the fall of the junior year, candidates are assigned to selected area schools and expected to participate in daily activities with their mentor teachers until the time of graduation.
Progression to Upper Division/Major Requirements
After completition of the core, to be eligible for progression to the upper division courses in the Elementary and Special Education program, a student must:
- Complete 60 semester hours of Core IMPACTS and Field of Study credit applicable to the program with an overall grade point average of 2.50 or higher.
- Complete the 1-credit-hour UNG 1101 first-year experience course.
- Complete Field of Study coursework with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Complete Writing and Mathematics coursework of the Core IMPACTS with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Complete an application for progression to the upper division, which includes the required pre-service certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The application deadline is posted on the College of Education website at https://ung.edu/college-of-education/admissions.php
- Provide proof of liability insurance valid through projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through any of the professional education organizations listed on the application form.
