Secondary (6-12) Teacher Education Programs


The College of Education offers Bachelor of Science in Education (BSEd) programs in English, History, and Mathematics, and Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (BSSE) programs in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics leading to secondary certification, preparing students to teach grades six through 12. All programs require students to complete an application for progression to their upper division courses through the College of Education prior to moving past the 60-hour core.

Progression to Upper Division/Major Requirements

After completion of the core, to be eligible for progression to the upper division courses in all secondary programs, a student must:

  1. Complete 60 to 80 semester hours of Core IMPACTS and Field of Study credit applicable to the program with an overall grade point average of 2.50 or higher.
  2. Complete EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, EDUC 2130, and Field of Study courses with a grade of C or higher;
  3. Complete Core IMPACTS Writing and Mathematics courses with a grade of C or higher;
  4. All secondary content coursework requires a “C” grade or higher;
  5. Complete an application for progression to the upper division, which includes the required pre-service certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The application deadline is posted on the College of Education website at https://ung.edu/college-of-education/admissions.php.
  6. Provide proof of liability insurance valid through projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through any of the professional education organizations listed on the application form;
  7. Provide a copy of signed plan of study
