Theatre Arts (B.F.A.)

120 hours

The BFA in Theatre Arts degree program consists of a one hundred twenty (120) semester hour sequence designed to prepare students to work professionally in the entertainment industry (film, theatre, TV, other media). It is a comprehensive degree with 78 credits in Theatre Arts required. An additional 42 credits are taken in the Core IMPACTS General Education curriculum coursework.

Degree admittance is through audition or interview only. Students wishing to be admitted should attend one of the audition/interview events during the year or schedule a private session with the Associate Director of Theatre in the School of Communication, Film & Theatre for consideration and placement.

Criteria for Admission

For those wishing to study Acting within the degree:

  • Prepare 2 contrasting monologues and bring a headshot and resume

For those wishing to study Musical Theatre:

  • Prepare 2 contrasting songs and one monologue and bring a headshot and resume

For those wishing to study Design or Technology

  • Prepare a portfolio of completed work and bring it along with a resume to the interview

Humanities: MUSC 1100, ART 1100, THEA 1100, or MDST 1110 recommended

Writing: No exceptions

STEM: No exceptions

Social Sciences: No exceptions

Field of Study - 18 hours


A “C” or better is required in all Field of Study courses.

Major Requirements - 60 hours


A “C” or better is required in all major requirements.

Theatre Arts Electives - 6 hours


Electives (with appropriate prerequisites) can be taken within The School of Communication, Film & Theatre, or, within any discipline offered at UNG with prior approval from an advisor.
