Creative Writing prioritizes the making of original work through a generative, practice-based approach. Most courses adopt a workshop format where students circulate drafts, exchange feedback, and revise in response to that ongoing conversation. The classroom dynamic thus emphasizes experimentation, creative risk, productive failure, and stylistic experimentation, where instructors serve less as traditional lecturers and more as mentors, informed readers, and facilitators of the creative process—particularly in its more uncertain and exploratory stages.
