SOCI 3335 - Sociology of Popular Culture This course examines popular culture, its nature, its role in our lives, and its broad effects on society, individuals, and culture from a sociological perspective. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding how sociologists approach and study culture and mass media/popular culture; the organization of the mass media industry; the production and consumption of popular culture (including media effects); the representation and reproduction of race, class, gender and sexuality in popular culture; and new media.
