The Department of Physics & Astronomy offers courses of study leading to the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree with a pathway in Engineering, the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree with a pathway in Engineering Technology, the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree with a pathway in Natural Sciences and courses related to Physics, and the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a major in Physics. Students may begin their B.S. degree on any UNG campus but must complete the program on the Dahlonega campus. The Department of Physics & Astronomy also offers two concentrations within the B.S. Physics degree: Astrophysics and Computational Physics, as well as a minor in Physics. The B.S. degree in Physics prepares students for graduate studies in physics and related fields and employment in various technical positions. Students interested in pursuing secondary education teacher certification at the bachelor’s level should review the Physics Education (BSED)  offered through the College of Education.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy offers a dual degree program that allows students to receive both a bachelor’s degree in physics from UNG and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Southern University, Mercer University, or Clemson University. Students begin their studies at UNG and after completing the specified UNG curriculum, transfer to the engineering college where they complete a degree in engineering. When the engineering degree is completed, the student can request their bachelor’s degree in physics from UNG be awarded.

Students seeking a bachelor of engineering degree may begin their college studies at the University of North Georgia by declaring the Regents Engineering Pathways Program  (REP program) major, in which they will complete a pre-engineering curriculum. Upon successful completion of the pre-engineering curriculum, REP students transfer to the Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Southern University, the University of Georgia, or Mercer University to complete their engineering degree requirements.
