The Gerontology Certificate Program at University of North Georgia is designed to enable students at the undergraduate and graduate level, non-degree students, and residents of the community to obtain a certificate in 2-3 semesters of course work. Students will complete a total of fifteen (15) semester hours of graduate level or upper level undergraduate courses to meet the requirements of the certificate program. The Gerontology Certificate can be completed as a fully online program, a fully on ground program, or a combination of the two. Three (3) of the hours must come from introduction to aging classes. Nine (9) hours must come from Gerontology electives. Additionally, students select three (3) hours from the following capstone offerings: a supervised Practicum Experience (GERO 3581); a Research Experience (GERO 3681) with a faculty member working in any area of Gerontology; or a Service Learning experience (HSDA 4201) in a Gerontology setting. A faculty member in the Gerontology program must approve the practicum, research, or service learning experience.
Many of the courses in the Gerontology certificate may also be used to satisfy major, minor, and elective course requirements in your Plan of Study (POS). For additional information, contact the Department of Psychological Science.
