Secondary (6-12) and P-12 Teacher Education Programs


Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Secondary Teacher Education Program a student must:

  1. complete 70 semester hours of credit applicable to the degree program with an overall grade point average of 2.75 or higher;
  2. complete EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, EDUC 2130 and Area F courses with a grade of C or higher;
  3. complete Area A courses with a grade of C or higher;
  4. successfully complete the field experience hours and display the professional dispositions required to work with students in schools;
  5. post a passing score on the GACE Basic Skills Assessment test or its equivalent (see the Teacher Education Department for exemption information);
  6. complete an application for admission to the Teacher Education Program. Application deadline is posted on the department web page;
  7. provide proof of liability insurance that is valid through projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through either of the professional education organizations listed on the application form.
  8. Students should meet with their education advisor regularly and visit the Teacher Education Program admission website to prepare for the admissions process: https://ung.edu/college-of-education/admissions.php.

Courses in Secondary and P-12 Education Programs

Secondary Education (biology, chemistry, English, history, and mathematics) students major in their academic departments as do those in the P-12 programs (art, music, and physical education). Programs of study are listed with the appropriate academic department. The following courses require admission to teacher education and are included in many of those programs of study.

SCED 3000, SCED 4002, SCED 4003, SCED 4005, READ 3106 and the final internship are required in most P-12 and 6-12 programs. Check with your advisor for details.

Final Internship is SCED 3540, SCED 4403, SCED 4404 and SCED 4405.
