Study Abroad/International Internship - 6 hours (3 of which are applied elsewhere in the student’s plan of study)

All SSST majors are required to complete at least 6 credit hours of an international internship and/or a study abroad program, 3 credit hours must be at the 3000 or 4000 level. A student’s international internship must be coordinated within their concentration. A student’s study abroad program can include courses from the following list of courses:
- 3xxx/4xxx non-English language course
- 3xxx/4xxx CRJU course
- 3xxx/4xxx HIST course
- 3xxx/4xxx INTL course
- 3xxx/4xxx MILS course
- 3xxx/4xxx POLS course
These courses are permissible for students as long as they are part of a recognized UNG-sanctioned study abroad program, or an international internship, which has been approved by the SSST coordinator. The Political Science & International Affairs Department Head can give exceptions to this policy at their discretion.
The Strategic and Security Studies program focuses on broad topics related to national security interests where international relations theory, intelligence and military power inform the construction of national security policy. This interdisciplinary program includes courses from the following areas: Intelligence, Geospatial Intelligence, Military Science, Critical Languages, History, International Affairs and Cyber-Security. Through this interdisciplinary program students will be introduced to various aspects of security and will have the opportunity to specialize in one of the seven areas of concentration for the degree. As part of this program students are expected to participate in a study abroad experience of at least 25 days in country generating at least 6 hours of academic credit or an international internship of 240 work hours in country to satisfy the international experiential requirement of the SSST major.
