Mathematics Education (BSED)

Location(s): Dahlonega, Gainesville


121 hours

Students who successfully complete the BSED in Mathematics Education at UNG will be certified to teach grades 6-12 in Mathematics content.  Prior to recommendation for certification, students must take and pass the GACE in their content area.

A minimum grade of “C” is required for all Field of Study, Content, and Teacher Preparation courses in this degree program, unless otherwise noted.

To be eligible for progression to the upper division courses, a student must:

  • Complete 60 to 80 semester hours of Core IMPACTS and Field of Study credit applicable to the program with an overall grade point average of 2.50 or higher;
  • Complete EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, EDUC 2130, and Field of Study courses with a grade of “C” or higher;
  • Complete Core IMPACTS Writing, Mathematics, and STEM Math/Tech courses with a grade of “C” or higher;
  • All secondary content coursework requires a “C” grade or higher;
  • Complete an application for progression to the upper division, which includes the required pre-service certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The application deadline is posted on the College of Education website at https://ung.edu/college-of-education/admissions.php;
  • Provide proof of liability insurance valid through projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through any of the professional education organizations listed on the application form;
  • Provide a copy of signed plan of study
