Music with Musical Arts Concentration (B.M.)

A successful entrance audition in the appropriate applied area is required for all students who desire to pursue either an Associate’s pathway in music or music education or a Bachelor of Music degree. Students who exhibit a high level of talent and potential, but are deficient in their applied area, may be offered provisional admission to the degree program and allowed to re-audition following one semester of secondary level study. Students who do not successfully pass the audition will not be admitted into the degree program. All music majors and minors must achieve a grade of C or higher in each Department of Music course (MUAP, MUED, and MUSC), including Core IMPACTS and transfer courses, that are taken to fulfill degree requirements.

Music Electives - 14 hours


  • Music electives chosen in consultation with an advisor. These courses may comprise either a general study of music or a more specific focus in a musical field.
  • Must include at least 9 credit hours at the 3000-4000 level
  • A maximum of 2 credit hours of MUAP 46XX may count. No additional courses in applied music (MUAP) will count towards a student’s elective hours
  • A maximum of 3 credit hours may come from ensembles

Senior Capstone - 1 hour


Electives or Minor - 18 hours


  • Electives or a minor of the student’s choosing to reach 121 overall hours for the degree
  • Students may choose 18 hours of electives, an 18 hour minor, or a 15 hour minor plus 3 elective hours
  • No other Music (MUSC or MUAP) courses may be used except by approval of the Department Head. Music Education (MUED) courses may be used.
  • Must include at least 11 credit hours at the 3000-4000 level to reach 39 overall upper-level hours for the degree
