Regents Engineering Pathways Program

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs

Students seeking a bachelor of engineering degree may begin their college studies at the University of North Georgia (UNG) through the Regents Engineering Pathways (REP) program by completing a pre-engineering curriculum. Upon successful completion of the pre-engineering curriculum, REP program students may transfer to the Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Southern University, the University of Georgia, or Mercer University to complete the degree requirements. Students in this program, like other engineering graduates, will normally require four to five years to complete the degree requirements, depending on their pre-college preparation, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and engineering major.

UNG’s faculty members work closely with the faculty of the engineering schools to assure a curriculum which is well-coordinated. REP program students first satisfactorily complete the pre-engineering curriculum required by the transfer institution and then apply for transfer to the engineering school. However, admission will also be based upon the specific requirements of the transfer institution, such as overall grade point average, their math-science grade point average and other factors. These requirements vary among the participating engineering schools. Those schools’ specific expectations are listed on their websites. Students should prioritize completing the courses required for transfer by the engineering school. UNG’s REP program advisors should also be consulted for their assistance. Students participating in the Corps of Cadets will take required Military Science (MILS) courses in addition to their other courses.

To transfer, students must:

  1. Complete the REP requirements of the transfer institution, including courses and grade point average.
  2. Submit the application materials online to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the engineering school.
  3. Students applying to the Georgia Institute of Technology must also obtain a formal digital recommendation from the University of North Georgia REP Coordinator.

Dual Degree Program

The University of North Georgia offers three Dual Degree programs in engineering. These programs provide students the opportunity to develop a strong liberal arts background before completing academic coursework in engineering at another institution. Dual Degree program students normally attend UNG for approximately 3 years and then transfer to and attend the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Southern University, Kennesaw State University, Clemson University, or Mercer University for an additional 2 to 2 1/2 years. Upon completion of study in this program, the successful student will receive a B.S. in an engineering field from the engineering school, in addition to the bachelor’s degree in the major from UNG.
