Special Education (BSED)

The Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) in Special Education certifies graduates to teach all students P-12 with disabilities whose individual education program indicates instruction using the general education curriculum and participation in the general statewide assessment.

Progression to Upper Division/Major Requirements

After completion of the core, to be eligible for progression to the upper division courses in the Special Education program, a student must:

  1. Complete 60 semester hours of Core IMPACTS and Field of Study credit applicable to the program with an overall grade point average of 2.50 or higher.
  2. Complete the 1-credit-hour UNG 1101 first-year experience course.
  3. Complete Field of Study coursework with a grade of “C” or higher.
  4. Complete Core IMPACTS Writing, Mathematics, and STEM Math/Tech coursework with a grade of “C” or higher.
  5. Complete an application for progression to the upper division, which includes the required pre-service certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The application deadline is posted on the College of Education website at https://ung.edu/college-of-education/admissions.php
  6. Provide proof of liability insurance valid through projected graduation date. This insurance can be purchased through any of the professional education organizations listed on the application form.
