Online Learning

Online learning at UNG is offered through UNG Online (programs and courses taught by UNG professors for UNG students) and eCore. Course work is conducted through utilization of a learning management system (BrightSpace by D2L), which offers online discussion groups, quizzes, assignment submissions, and course email.

Students are most likely to succeed in online courses when they:

  • have reliable access to an Internet-connected computer.
  • know how to navigate web sites, manage email, work with files, and do other basic computer tasks.
  • can organize their own time to complete assignments and meet deadlines.
  • participate actively in online discussions.
  • are comfortable asking for help or clarification when needed.
  • are prepared to work as hard online as they would in a face-to-face class.

About UNG Online

UNG Online offers a number of fully online certificates and master’s and doctoral degrees. UNG Online courses are also available to students on any campus.

All UNG Online courses are QM certified to ensure high-quality design, ease of use and reliability. UNG Online courses are designed, developed, taught, and supported by UNG faculty and staff.

UNG Online courses are taught entirely online. However, some courses may require a proctored activity in the course. There are two online course formats: asynchronous and synchronous fully online. Asynchronous online courses have no specific meeting days and times. Students can log in at any time of day however there are specific deadlines for assignments. Synchronous fully online courses have virtual meetings on specific meeting days and times.

UNG Online follows the UNG academic calendar. Students may also be required to complete mandatory attendance activities in their online course to demonstrate participation in order to be reported as attending. In addition, there are fees associated with taking online courses. Students enrolling in only online courses are exempt from mandatory student fees, except for the online learning fee. There is also a separate fee for proctored exams. UNG Online courses are accessed through Brightspace by D2L, using UNG login credentials.

Students enrolled in UNG Online programs are not eligible to register for on-campus courses, participate in the Corps of Cadets or live in residence halls. Online students can come on-campus for the use of on-campus facilities (i.e., Rec Center, health services), student engagement activities (i.e., intramural sports, fraternity & sorority life, and Nighthawks Entertainment activities), and academic services including PROS activities, library services, UNG Testing Center, career services, and more. Online students attending on campus events, participating in on campus programs or activities, or utilizing on campus services must have a registered UNG parking permit and a fully completed Certificate of Immunization form filed with Student Health Services.
