The Department of Sociology & Human Services offers multiple degrees in Sociology, Human Services, and related fields. In our majors, students develop an appreciation of themselves and the world around them, and the knowledge and skills to serve diverse populations locally and globally. Students develop strong critical thinking skills and demonstrate knowledge of scientific methodology and theory, and an understanding of interpersonal and societal dynamics.
Our Sociology program offers a broad foundation in the field of Sociology, including a solid grounding in social theory and research methodology. Bachelor’s of Sociology majors are encouraged to have an internship. We offer a BS, AA, and minor in Sociology. Our nationally accredited Human Services is an applied degree that prepares students for entry level position in the field of human services. More specifically, our program prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve individuals, families, groups, and communities, and to manage human services functions. Field experience courses in an applied setting are required of all Human Services Delivery and Administration majors. We offer a BS and minor in Human Services. We also offer degrees in Social Work (AA) and Gerontology (minor and certificate program). See below for more information about the Social Work and Gerontology programs of study.
Each major will be assigned a faculty advisor to assist in the development of academic and career goals and strategies. For more information or to speak with an advisor, please contact the Department of Sociology and Human Services. All students will demonstrate competency and skills in their major in addition to critical thinking, oral and written proficiencies.
