ARED 5310 - Creative Art: The Young Child ARED 5310 will prepare the pre-service art educator to deliver studio instruction using methods and materials appropriate for educating children in elementary education programs and other educational settings. The teacher candidate will consider, understand, and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of planning for visual art instruction and the processes used to foster critical thinking and creativity in their students. Course content reviews current art education research, theory and curriculum development using an authentic and holistic art educational approach incorporating the four disciplines of studio art, art history, aesthetics and criticism. National Visual Arts Standards and the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Visual Art will also be addressed using materials and methods appropriate for designing art instruction for the young child. The metacognitive model of learning will be emphasized. Field experiences with young students in elementary educational environments will allow for practical training in lesson planning and classroom management.
