ARED 5320 - Creative Art: The Adolescent ARED 5320 will prepare the pre-service art educator to deliver studio instruction using methods and materials appropriate for educating adolescents in secondary education programs and other educational settings. The teacher candidate will consider, understand, and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of planning for visual art instruction and the processes used to foster critical thinking and creativity in their students. ARED 5320 is an introduction to instructional methodology in art education designed for adolescents. Course content reviews current art education research, theory and curriculum development using an authentic and holistic art educational approach incorporating the four disciplines of studio art, art history, aesthetics and criticism. National Visual Arts Standards and the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Visual Art will also be addressed using materials and methods appropriate for designing art instruction for the adolescent. The metacognitive model of learning will be emphasized. Field experiences with adolescent students in secondary educational environments will allow for practical training in lesson planning and classroom management.
