Visual Arts (B.F.A.)

The Visual Arts Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) is a professional degree with 69 credit hours in studio art and art history courses. Multiple advanced studio art courses equip students with proficiency in an area of focus, preparing them for graduate school admission or for positions within a variety of creative industries that demand advanced artistic expertise. Students culminate their degree with a Capstone Exhibition, which provides an applied learning experience.
The areas of focus in the BFA in Visual Arts are: Ceramics & Sculpture; Digital Arts; Drawing & Painting; Graphic Design; Photography; and Printmaking and Paper Arts.
The Visual Arts B.F.A. program is by internal admission through the Department of Visual Arts. Interested students may apply between 45-90 total earned credit hours and submit a B.F.A. Application. Applications to the B.F.A. will be reviewed every fall and spring semester.
Criteria for Admission
- Pass Foundations Portfolio Review & Complete Area F
- Completion of minimum 45 total credit hours and maximum 90 credit hours
- 2000 level studio course in area of focus (can be area F elective)
- Good academic standing
- Submission of complete BFA Application (form, portfolio, and Statement of Progress - see Visual Arts website for detailed instructions)
Visual arts majors must achieve a grade of C or better in each Department of Visual Arts course taken to fulfill degree requirements.

*Foundations portfolio submitted for review after or concurrently with ART 1010, ART 1020, and ART 1030. Completion by 45 hours.

Junior Studio Art - 9 hours
- Choose three 3xxx-level studio art courses
Senior Studio Art - 18 hours
- Choose six 4xxx-level studio art courses in no more than two focus areas
